Miami                                                                                    feb 12 -2007

"Some of the ususal suspects, namely Kelly and Holly, came out in the light wind and dominated, and really refined their game from the previous week.  They had a good time and are undergoing further Olympic Training this week with Carolina Borges, straight from Brazil, who has offered to take them out and show them how the OCR course works.  Parents, you can see the progress is very rapid when you send your kids to one of these clinics!

Also starring this weekend was Rookie of the Year candidate Rafael Sanchez's little boy Nicholas, who much like his dad, proved to be a quick learner as you can see from the pictures.  Word is he is very fired up about windsurfing!  In a time confused haze, but also attending, was Ian from Shake A Leg, who came late but took advantage of the best wind after lunch time and showed some good tacking a creative gybing skills.

Thanks to all our helpers, again, who consisted of Meredith from SAL, Matt from SAL and Megan and Jim DeSilva.  Contact Jim at 781 424 5351 or tooncesracing@hotmail.com to get your child into the next clinic.  All gear provided by Eduardo Owen of Next Sports in Miami."

Miami                                                                                                                        Feb. 3 2007

This past Saturday we had an outstanding kids clinic at Virginia Key.  Holly, Kara, Kelly and the world famous Ian from Shake A Leg all learned how to windsurf.  Although conditions were light and variable during the rig up, the breeze quickly picked up from the NE, building to 18 knots in the puffs....kind of strong for learning, but these kids were superstars.  Kelly won the award for longest ride as she got halfway down to the BearCut bridge, and Ian won the award for going the farthest out to sea, making it halfway to Bimini before deciding to come back.  But Holly and Kara showed outstanding skills and even went for some board to board photography with the waterproof camera at the end of the session.

Our next clinic is scheduled for this coming Saturday at 9am, so if you have kids that are fired up about windsurfing, contact Jim DeSilva at 781 424 5351 or email him at tooncesracing@hotmail.com .

This will be an ongoing program and is supported by Miami Windsurfing, Team Miami, Fanatic and F2, Shake A Leg, Jim and eveyone else who has an interest in growing the sport

Kids need to sail with other kids...that is what makes it fun!

DISCOVERY

This is not just a clinic……this is an a way to build windsurfing for youth in Miami. We will be doing these clinics, for kids only, every other Sunday, but we need your support and help in getting started. Bring your kids down, bring some extra kids rigs if you have them, and bring some friends of your kids and sign them up. What works best with kids is to be SAILING WITH OTHER KIDS, so that is what we are trying to create here. It‘s great for parents to sail with their kids, but just like other youth activities, kids have to do it with other kids. Our goal is develop a team of kids that we can then take to other events next year, (such as the Midwinter’s in Cocoa) where other kids are sailing. It is a great sport, the gear is awesome now, and we want to re-ignite youth windsurfing in Miami.

Kids who have never windsurfed before are welcome, as are kids who have done some windsurfing.

Times will be 9:00 to 12:30. Location is TBD based on the forecast and tide. Parents will need to be at the beach. Kids need to dress appropriately for the weather and booties are a requirement. We would suggest a lycra top for warm weather.

We will be doing some special outings as the groups skills start to develop, so there is a lot to look forward to here. Once a certain skill level is reached, parents will be able to rent boards at a special rate to allow their kids to get some more time in.

We are very excited about this program and Jim and the rest of Team Miami will be involved in helping out with these events.

Space is limited, so please call Jim DeSilva @ 781 424 5351 to reserve a board or email Jim @
